This is my first post for AOL Real Estate. I am honored to be part of the new AOL.

But if this is AOL Real Estate, why then am I writing about jobs? Because employment growth is key to ending the real estate depression (yes, depression) we have all been suffering through for more than a year. The key to real estate recovery is more jobs, simple as that. And unfortunately, according to my friends who attended this week's White House Jobs Summit, we can expect little to no real help on jobs from the Obama Administration.

This White House event was a sham, a photo opp meant solely to influence public opinion without actually doing anything, according to attendees. This can be seen, for example, in the coverage by USA Today, which proudly quoted statements by the President about what had been accomplished in the sessions, yet USA Today said their interview took place two hours before the event even started.

How could Obama know in advance what would be accomplished?

According to people who were there (and spoke to me anonymously because they want to be invited back) the President reportedly made no real connection with people in the room. He knew at least half of them personally, yet addressed them in the small space reading from a teleprompter. In the private breakout sessions he breezed through, Obama said there was no federal money to help jobs, not much anyway. That's hardly what he said in his public remarks, which were much more upbeat.

Which position is the truth?

Nobody I talked to from the meeting came away with a sense of optimism, that anything of substance had been accomplished or even set in motion. They felt used.

This doesn't bode well for a real housing recovery that can be sustained after the first-time home buyer tax credits finally expire next year.

And it may seem a small point, but why did the Administration invite all these leaders to meet for six hours (it was scheduled from 11:30-5:30 and ended on-time) yet offer them no breaks and nothing to eat or drink, not even a bottle of water? Attendees are treated better than that each weekend in the Avoiding Foreclosure seminars down at the Holiday Inn. Couldn't Obama have hired a couple of caterers?

That would have been two jobs down, 10 million to go.

We have a pretender in the White House who's only objective is to get as much crap rushed thriu teh Democrat Congres, and passed without likely having been even read, before next November's mid term elections so as to make it almost impossible for the people to dig themselves out from under the deluge of debt it represents. I went from earning $97K prior to being laid off in Oct. 2008, to earning a meager $8k plus a session and a half of unemployment benefits this year, under what I consider is likely to be a real close version of what I envision Obama care to be like after the Trillions he is spending for (non) health care reform. The Congeress is secretly gutting Medicaire, reducing tax breaks (de facto tax hikes in my opinion)in the medical expense accounts that were enacted just a few years back and that seem to work. AARP is the real culprit in this scam as their insurance plans will be tnh edirect beneficiary of these changes, while increased premiums and lowered access si the expected outcome for many seniors who have foxed income levels. Add to this the captive 33 million in new insurance needers who will have to pny up premiums after the mandates go thru to the greedy insurancc companies liking their chops in anticipation of this windfall godsend. That Senators in LA, Maine, and Ark had to be bought off and thus openly bribed for this crap legislation to even see the light of day is unpardonable and will cost these three their jobs next November. Sen.s Dodd, Frank, Reid, maybe SOH Pelosi, Boxer and many more of the ringleaders who have come to the conclusion that the wishes of the people come second when it concerns party politics, can all wave goodbye because they are done. The current Obama administration will go down in history, after only single term, as one of the most decietful and disingenuous in our nations history. One day the folks saddled with all the debt the Democrats have signed off on will curse the naive youth in this country today, that were so thoroughly bamboozled by climate scares and visions of student loan modifications and free stuff coming their way, and thought it wouldn't cost them anything. Blacks, who are in thne 90 percentile of agreement with this fiscal madness, will be politically set back for generations after the utter embicility of Obama (in both domestic and foreign policy) is fully scutinized, and the total level of mismanagement and do nothing attitude its made up of, is shown to be the reckless stupidity it truly is. Their happy and smiling at this moment but the tables are about to be turned,

No refreshments were offered because BHO felt that basking in his remarkable and benign presence would be reward enough for all.

My husband is an attorney workout specialist working with banks in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area and I can assure you that a huge factor in the stagnant real estate picture is the fact that banks just aren't lending. It's not that they don't want to, but the Feds are requiring so much reserve to be held liquid that they don't have the cash available to finance anything from small businesses to commercial and residential construction. This recession is fully under the hidden control of Big Brother and it is marching steadily into an even worse condition than the one we're in already.

Obama aside can anyone tell me why anyone with $10.00 for a licence can call themselves a real estate agent and get a share of at least 6% of sales .I keep hearing complaints about car or bank executives, but at least most of them finished high school, and have to have a clean criminal record. Now days it seems like a short skirt, or a bottle of cheap cologne and a loud tie and vola " I'm a Real Estate Agent trust me". Now that is a profession that needs cleaning up.

So what is new when what our President does isn't is scam. We all know it was all for show and nothing else. How else could he could the worlds attention? How sad it must be when a person needs all that attention and doesn't get it? He is always saying jobs are around the corner for those who are looking for work. But is instead he is hopping the world on Air Force one making himself look good and making himself the laughing stock of the world. If he only knew what an impression he makes he would take care of business instead of hopping around doing nothing.

OBAMA/SENATE/CONGRESS ARE LIKE A TEENAGER WITH HIS FIRST CREDIT CARD AND WE ARE THE PARENTS PAYING THE BILL-------MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN OUT OF WORK FOR 7 YEARS WITH JUST 2 PART TIME JOBS SINCE HIS COMPANY MOVED OVER SEAS. IF I WASEN'T WORKING WE WOULD BE ON THE STREET ALONG WITH THE OTHER 13 MILLION PEOPLE OUT OF WORK. I HAVE WORKED 2 JOBS FOR MOST OF MY LIFE AND SHOULD BE RETIRING NOW BUT WITH SCARCE OR NO JOBS I FEEL LIKE THE ENERGIZER BUNNY I HAVE TO KEEP ON TICKING.
I WON'T VOTE FOR ANOTHER DEM IN THE COMING ELECTION!! OBAMA DIDN'T DO THIS ALL BY HIMSELF!

Less than 8% of the people in Obama's top Cabinet-related positions have ever worked in the private sector. They're all academics or government bureaucrats who have never had to meet a bottom line. Ya think he's getting sound advice on how to create jobs?

On top of that, threats toward businesses for not providing health insurance won't help to add jobs. I have a good friend who owns a small business. 85% of his employees are part-time. But if he doesn't provide health insurance for all of them, he'll be fined over $200,000 per year. That sure makes him want to expand, doesn't it?

You know it totally amazes me when people get disgusted with the President and how he is doing when I put in my disclaimer of, " I did not vote for the man" the people that I say this to all agree with me.

Well some of you people out there are lying!! If all these people that I talk to say they did not vote for him either how in the hell did this loser get into the White House?

I believe a lot of people are ashamed about the choice they made at the polls and not man or woman enough to admit their mistakes. That's ok though you're going to have to suck it up for your error in judgement also just like us people who were in our right minds and voted for McCain.

Just remember two things you fickle people. First all being President is just a temp job and Second of all the last time someone used the catch phrase "time for change" was Jimmy Carter and we all KNOW how great a job he did. NOT!!!!

Robert, your article is consistent with the experience a CEO for a Fortune 50 company conveyed to me early this year. I have known and worked with him for over 20 years and he is extrmely sincere, honest, and ethical. He and other top CEO's were invited to a attend a business summit. He said that Obama gave pre-written comments to the group, took no questions, called in the photographers for photos and left. He described it as a "pure photo op". With previous administrations, he indicated that in these meetings the president would ask them for their comments and listened intently. And this CEO is not a republican....he leans more to the left so his comments really surprised me. Your description is almost identical to what he relayed to me. Thanks for sharing and for the confirmation - at least in my mind

Public Relation instead of Proper Solutions. (perception not problem solving) This has been the current administration program for every problem they have encountered since taking office. The President reminds me of many I've worked with over the years. They present themselves very well in the interview, and on the 1st day at work they arrive unable to live up the billing. If you look closer to this past year, the problems have been treated as though they were neighborhood problems being handled by an Organizer. No where in the resume will you find business experience. The people around the President are radicals in several fields and have been placed into positions of responsibility far afield from their expertise. I'm sorry to say but my President has not been able to begin to relate to the people of this great land. Not their needs or mindset, completely out of touch. Leadership is inspiring others to a greater good not what we've seen so far. Pushing unwanted ideas by any means is not leadership but borders on dictatorship.

Reading all these blogs, and hearing "it's Bush's fault" is getting old already. Mr Obama HAS the ability, and power to overturn anything that Bush did. But does he do it? NO!! The fact is this boys and girls, Obama is in charge now (and has been for a little over a year) and things in this country are worse than ever!! ....... enough of the blame game!!

First of all, "Cringely" is the pen name of Mark Stephens, among others, and he is known as a technical writer. Second, Stephens also falsely claimed to have a PhD from Stanford University and claimed to have been a professor there. Both claims were shown to be untrue. So now the guy is an expert on economics and has an inside ear at the White House? If I want this kind of garbage from phony "experts", I'll watch Fox "news". I guess this is the "new-and-improved" AOL.

Incorrect -- there are more than one Robert X. Cringely, as stated at the end of his normal Blog's about page at http://www.cringely.com/about/ . You've got the real one here.

Obama and Michelle have scared me witless since BEFORE they were elected....and I do mean they! He is a wonderful speaker, and if I owned a Company, I'd love to have him on my sales staff...but I believe that she is the strategist, the planner, the power broker, and a committed liberal.

Their major focus right now is revamping a health care system that has been sadly abused but is not broken, and they really don't care who will pay for it; they don't want to fix, they want to reinvent, and the devil take the cost. Jobs to them, in my mind, are only a secondary consideration, and the status of the housing market? Somewhere around 11 or 12 on the list.

I'm truly concerned, folks. I've been writing to my (non-responsive) representatives at both the state and local levels to no avail. I don't know what else to do to stop this nonsense.
