Stockton, CaliforniaFrom Hooker, Oklahoma to Accident, Maryland homeowners proudly have a thing or two to say about their home-city's reputation. The residents of Hell, Michigan, for example, can't help but smile as they call theirs "a town on its way up."

Stockton, California residents? Not so much. They don't want to embrace their town's new nickname: "Foreclosureville." Who would?

According to MSNBC the inland town 80 miles east of San Francisco got the name two years ago from the Los Angeles Times. It also earned the number one spot on Forbes' "most miserable cities" index, a feat typically marked with street-cred-enhancing-shout-outs on albums.

But so-called "Foreclosureville" doesn't suffer alone...Perhaps the decade-old Eminem lyrics should be re-worked: "May I have your attention please? Would the real "foreclosureville" please stand up, please stand up"? Here are 10 other cities with top foreclosure street cred...

The blog Collateral Vision posted the top 10 foreclosure counties based on records from activity in the FNC's National Collateral Database™ . They were:

  1. Los Angeles, California
  2. Maricopa, Arizona
  3. Clark, Nevada
  4. Riverside, California
  5. San Bernardino, California
  6. San Diego, California
  7. Miami-Dade, Florida
  8. Broward, Florida
  9. Sacramento, California

Additional counties that made appearances in the quarterly top 10 were Orange County, California; Wayne County, Michigan; and Cook County, Illinois.

Yes, there's plenty of "underwater" to go around, Slim.

Mr. Piggy,
I am an attractive, fit, witty, intelligent, self employed almost 50 y/o woman. I am easy going, don't talk too much, or too little. I don't mind if my man needs some time with the guys, watches sports, etc., as long as theirs still time for me at the end of the day. However . . . I have no interest in a man who calls himself "Piggy". Keepers like me want a well groomed, man, whom doesn't need his mother to pick up after him! And "git 'er done?" Seriously? How romantic? Yuck! If you're all that's still out there, I'd rather spend the rest of my life alone thanks. If you're interested in a real woman, vs a chew toking slob, you might reconcider how you present yourself in your postings about yourself.

Well, I can tell you for sure that everyone here in Phoenix (Maricopa County AZ) has become MEAN SPIRITED, selfish, and nasty...even though I am able to pay my mortgage, I've come to almost hate living here. I don't think I've become mean, but I HAVE become very depressed about it. It's sad... the weather (other than the rain/snow storm we had last week!) is still beautiful, and the scenery too, but the PEOPLE...

I live next to stockton Ca. and it is not like this stupid article is saying. What a load of Crap! We bought 2 houses on foreclosure , one last November and one the september before last. The market is actually going up out here while other cities are still going down! It could be because stockton area was hit with foreclosures first. I visited West Palm beach Fl last summer and keep a house there. The market in Fl is worse by far than Ca at this point! They have seen no rebound! On the other hand my home is selling for about $30,000- $40,000 more now in California! So this article is Poop! Do some real research before you print idots!

know what? people who live in a crappy town always make themselves out to be making good money on the current foreclosure snowball that is getting bigger every day. also to the person who claims that illegal immigrants are taking their jobs away.where do you work? burger king or any of the fast food companies. .if you don't work there than how can an alien take your job when you own a house and probably make a decent wage. remember too thatthey work for crappy wages and a lot of them are laborers because we americans wouldn't work that hard for the pay they get

It is refreshing to see/find the humorous side in foreclosure occurances. Rephrasing Eminem's lyrics to the news made me smile; Dan's comment to prior respondees made me laugh.

Most of the houses are built by Local Big time Crooks in this Arm Pit city... Worst money grubbing, politically crooked city in California. can't go uptown or downtown without a Gun and even then still not safe... City surounded by prisons and they furlow them out on Stockton Steets to do what ever they do best...Stay away from this Pit town...

First of all you should know that Stockton, California, is a city... Maricopa is the Largest County in Arizona; 200 by 200 Miles Square... Big difference to put one of the largest counties in the United State against the default of a city, eh! Let's try to make the numbers look worse than they really are, huh, Washington, D.C.

15. Patrick on Sunday, Jan 31st at 07:56:PM said...

I agree with part of your comment, but Maricopa County is only 9,000 sq. miles, 200 mi. x 200 mi would be 40,000 sq. miles. Your idea that Maricopa Co. is square is way off the mark, too, it's shaped more like a backwards comma.

Can you guess what almost all of these cities have in common, besides many being in California, hmmmmm? Can you say illegal immigrants? Taking advantage of our health care programs, abusing our educational programs, and on and on and on. The crime rate in these cities is also astronomical. So who are we going to blame for this, maybe these folks had better take a long look in the mirror for a change.

19. Darlene on Sunday, Jan 31st at 04:20:PM said...

Get off your entitled butt, and do the jobs they are supposedly taking from you! At that point we wont have an immigration problem.

20. Holly on Sunday, Jan 31st at 05:07:PM said...

G-you hit it right on the money. Most illegals work under the table for cash so they have no reportable income that can be traced then abuse the system to get welfare for their kids, food stamps, free hospital care and subprime loans. The states with high illegal populations are the ones going under. I talked to someone from a California city where there were a lot of foreclosures and he said he was happy since all the Mexicans had moved out.
