The real estate slopes, that is. Ford's former estate has been reduced by almost $2 million for quick sale. The LOADED, 11,629 square foot home at 65 Elk Track Court in Beaver Creek, Colorado is ski in/ski out and fresh from a presidential make-over, but current market conditions have forced the owner, Californian Kevin Hayes, to reduce the price of this spread to $12,995,000 from $14,999,000 and toss in some Presidential goodies to sweeten the pot.

Who says a president, any president, isn't good for property values? Hayes, who knew Ford personally, bought the home from the Fords in 2007 for $6,650,000.

Yes Hayes stands to double his money, even at the mark-down price, but, oh what you get for this now-discounted price: The only heated, indoor lap pool in Beaver Creek; direct ski access; seven bedrooms plus a children's sleeping loft; nine baths; decked-out master and master bath of course; two kitchens (one for the Chef); separate pool and fitness house holding the same massage table used by the former president; 600 bottle wine cellar; 1,100-square- foot, heated, outdoor patio to enjoy the view in the middle of winter without a coat, without freezing (and no snow to shovel!); 12-seat theater; secret service quarters now a game room; office; study; heated garage; and laundry room with multiple, front-loading washers and dryers. (Hey, skiing creates a ton of laundry.) Although not expanded, the home's year-long remodel and update was done with great sensitivity to preserving Gerald Ford's legacy, says the Realtor, Dee Dee Lantzy.

Also included in this price: More than $200,000 worth of artwork (not the former president's), and numerous presidential keepsakes such as the president's kitchen table, his cowboy hat, a putter, books and a few other personal items. You can also ski like a president because, don't tell the Smithsonian, but Gerald Ford's skis and ski jacket are included with the house. Snowplow on down to the lift named for the 38th president: President Ford's Lift.

There is no way this guy should double his money in 3 yrs. This is why the housing market is so f---ed up. Crazy deals like this one.

Its a free market, if someone wants to pay that price and they have the money than great. The reason the market tanked were bank loans to people to buy houses they couldn't afford, most of them in the 150,000 to 500,000 dollar range.

We have a home there. You go and find the same quality of home for a lower price.

Who said anyone is that moronic to pay that much for a property.

Hopefully not because it was Fords place.

Just because he paid 3 million does not mean it was actually worth it. He probably placed value in it being Fords property.

Just because he paid 3 million does not mean he will even get $3 million, much less what he wants for it.

And you probably expect the "government" to take care of you too.

Yea, "this" is the reason prices have gone up, not the good economy, it is guys who profit.....those terrable people - how aweful !

Complain of those that invest, improve, create, build - they do more for the economy that you ever could think of contributing.

Hey, if some fool is stupid enough to buy it for that price then more power to him. The market got messed up because too many people were borrowing too much money to but too little house. But aside from the cost of the house itself imagine that a small third world country might be able to put a good sized dent with the money this house will take to operate.

Maybe King Hussian can buy it with some of our hard earned tax dollars and make a hospital out of it and when we get sick we can go stand in line and all hold hands singing kumbuyya. Oh boy that would be GREAT.

Another gluttonous Republitard with a 12,000 sq. ft. VACATION house....It's got to be heated and cooled, no wonder why we are in the mess we are. And I put Al Gore in the same boat, and gladly do so. He would make a good Republitard. No wonder Clinton didn't want to have anything to do with him when his term was up. I could see Al and Georgie floating down the Chatahoochie (or whatever you call that river) humming the Dueling Banjo's tune.

Houses sell for what the market will bear and those who can afford it will buy. That's how it works here in our country. What's the problem with that? I don't have lots of money but I don't begrudge those that do 'cause I'm happy with what I have.

well you all blaming the democrats. but george bush bail out wall street before the election. that reason obama got elected. we should not bail out wall street. now wall street doesn't want to pay it back. they think should still get there bonuses. they don't need bonuses until they pay back the money. if all them programs was so bad for the united states why didn't bush do something about it. no because all them people was involved gotten very rich out of it. now they want to blame the democrats. the republicans are mostly the blame. what we need to do is fire everyone in washington d.c. and start over.

To DataJett: The topic is the sale of a house, so why waste space with your wrung out horsesh*t philosophy. It sounds like psychobabble you airhead. Your voice just isn’t that strong or impressive.

16. Joyous on Sunday, Feb 14th at 02:18:PM said...

You're absolutely right, Elle. Not only is DataJett's rant completely unimpressive, it's full of outright untruths that airheads keep spreading without bothering to find out if there's any truth, or without having a clue what they're talking about(as in ACORN equals HUD--wha??) That's the way ALL gossip is spread--and that's truly what all those silly, emails are that fly across the country. Gossip in its worst form. They all say, "I don't have a clue what this means, but I'm against it!!" Such fools.

The origina sales price of $6 mil begs the question how does a man who made tops $250k a year afford the house. Want to know why these guys and girls want to so despertly keep those jobs on the hill--uh.

It amazes me that a man like Ford, who was always on the public payroll owns all these multimillion dollar properties, must be the perks of government service.

THE ONES THAT HAVE MORE ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE MORE THAN ME. THE ONES THAT HAVE LESS ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE LESS THAN ME.WONDER WHY THAT IS. IT WAS SAME WAY WITH THE CAVE MAN AN IT HAS NEVER CHANGE.
