Euclid. (spacecraft) Euclid is a wide-angle space telescope with a 600-megapixel camera to record visible light, a near-infrared spectrometer, and photometer, to determine the redshift of detected galaxies. It was developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Euclid Consortium and was launched on 1 July 2023 from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
First full-disk "true color" [41] picture of the Earth; [42] subsequently used on the cover of the first Whole Earth Catalog. [43] [42] December 21, 1968. Apollo 8. First full-disk image of Earth from space taken by a person, probably by astronaut William Anders. [44] December 24, 1968.
Optical Telescope Element. Spacecraft ( Bus and Sunshield) James Webb Space Telescope mission logo. The James Webb Space Telescope ( JWST) is a space telescope designed to conduct infrared astronomy. Its high-resolution and high-sensitivity instruments allow it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. [10]
May 27, 2024 at 5:22 PM. The European Space Agency released five new images from the Euclid space telescope last week, showing some of the clearest images of the cosmos captured to date. The ...
Chandra is an Earth satellite in a 64-hour orbit, and its mission is ongoing as of 2024. Chandra is one of the Great Observatories, along with the Hubble Space Telescope, Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (1991–2000), and the Spitzer Space Telescope (2003–2020).
Webb's First Deep Field. Coordinates: 07 h 23 m 19.5 s, −73° 27′ 15.6″. Webb's First Deep Field. Webb's First Deep Field is the first operational image taken by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The deep-field photograph, which covers a tiny area of sky visible from the Southern Hemisphere, is centered on SMACS 0723, a galaxy ...
Pillars of Creation is a photograph taken by the Hubble Space Telescope of elephant trunks of interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, in the Serpens constellation, some 6,500–7,000 light-years (2,000–2,100 pc; 61–66 Em) from Earth. [1] These elephant trunks had been discovered by John Charles Duncan in 1920 on a plate made with the ...
There are over 200 full-sky images in spectral bands ranging from radio to gamma-rays There are also thousands of individual study images of various astronomical objects from space telescopes such as the Hubble Space Telescope, the Spitzer Space Telescope in infrared, the Chandra X-ray Observatory, COBE, WMAP, ROSAT, IRAS, GALEX as well as many ...
