The only way I can get it to launch is by going to task manager and finding whatsapp in the background processes, and then selecting it and clicking end task. After this, double-clicking the whatsapp shortcut launches whatsapp. Issue resolved with the App update with 2.2043.22.0.

Currently use Hangouts desktop which is pretty good but we normally communicate with staff & everyones else via whatsapp so makes sence. Also whilst 95% of time runs in background great & pop's up, starts with windows, it also has been know to log out if google has any issues.
