[1] The community is located along Missouri Route D approximately six miles north of Portland and the Missouri River and seven miles south of Williamsburg and I-70.

Auxvasse Township today (as of 2018) covers an area of 90.89 square miles (235.4 km 2) and, although containing no incorporated settlements, does contain the unincorporated settlements of Portland, Readsville, and Reform, as well as eastern Steedman along its border with St Aubert Township. The historic town of Heilburn bordered Portland.
Liberty Township today covers an area of 38.45 square miles (99.6 km 2 ), and while containing no incorporated towns, does include the unincorporated settlements of Hatton and Concord.
