It was established in 1975. [1] It is named for its most prominent feature, Cerro Chirripó, which at 3,820 m (12,530 ft) is the highest mountain in Costa Rica.
The Charles C. Deam Wilderness Area is located close to the city of Heltonville and Bloomington, Indiana. Lake Monroe, Indiana's largest reservoir, forms the northern boundary. Located at 6519 San Jose Drive, it was designated the San Jose Mission National Historic Site in 1941. The historic site was administratively listed on the National Register on October 15, 1966.
