Conneaut (/ ˈ k ɒ n i ɔː t / [4] KON-ee-awt) is a city in Ashtabula County, Ohio, United States, along Lake Erie at the mouth of Conneaut Creek 66 miles (106 km) northeast of Cleveland. The population was 12,318 at the 2020 census .
Location and General Description of Property. The railroad of The Meadville, Conneaut Lake and Linesville Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Meadville, Conneaut Lake and Linesville, which is leased to and operated by the Bessemer and Lake Erie, is a standard-gage, steam railroad, extending from Meadville to Linesville, Pa., 21.665 miles, approximately 2 miles of which is double track.
The residential communities around the lake are part of the Conneaut Lakeshore census-designated place. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 26.0 square miles (67.4 km 2 ), of which 25.8 square miles (66.9 km 2 ) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km 2 ), or 0.81%, is water.
From 1971 to 1973, the MRHF leased a 1-mile (1.6 km) spur from the B&LE at Conneaut Lake Park, and No. 4070 was used to pull summer weekend excursions on the line. [5] [20] Unsatisfied with the length of the spur, the MRHF searched for a longer railroad to run excursions with No. 4070. [20]
The road continues through more forests with a few homes before reaching the residential community of Conneaut Lake Park, where it curves northeast and crosses into Summit Township. After passing through Conneaut Lake Park, PA 618 runs between the Park Golf Course to the west and a field to the east before ending at PA 18. [2] [3]
