Callaway County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri.As of the 2020 United States Census, the county's population was 44,283. [1] Its county seat is Fulton. [2] With a border formed by the Missouri River, the county was organized November 25, 1820, and named for Captain James Callaway, grandson of Daniel Boone. [3]
A Native American settlement near here meant "upland forest" in the Osage language. [2] The History of Callaway County by John G. Provines [3] indicates that a patent for a survey of the area was granted in 1800 by the Spanish military government of Louisiana, before transfer to France lasting two years, and indicating that the area had rich soil and abundant fish and game.

Jackson Township covers an area of 64.75 square miles (167.7 km 2) and contains one incorporated settlement, Auxvasse. It contains four cemeteries: Auxvasse, Grand Prairie, Harrison and Pleasant Grove. The streams of Bynum Creek, Hunt Branch, Smith Branch and Yates Branch run through this township.
McCredie Township was created sometime between 1883 and 1897 from what was before then, generally speaking, the southern sector of a much larger historic Liberty Township, with some alterations of adjacent township boundaries. [4] [5] McCredie was the name of a prominent local family. [6]
In the 1880 census, Samuel (1841–1919) is listed as a cross tie maker and the family is listed as living in the Cedar township of Callaway County, Missouri. Between 1880 and 1885, Elizabeth Hubbard died and the family moved from Missouri to Kansas, living in the Spring Hill Township of Johnson County and later Weir City.
