The Grand Fountain of the United Order of True Reformers was founded by William Washington Browne c. 1875 in Richmond, Virginia [4] as an African-American fraternal organization. [3] Browne created the organization with the purpose of reviving the Grand United Order of True Reformers, which had become less active. [1]

William Washington Browne (October 20, 1849 – December 21, 1897) was American Union Army soldier, and the founder of the Grand Fountain of the United Order of True Reformers. [1][2] Browne was also a former slave, minister, and a teacher.
