Conneaut Lake / ˈkɒniˌɔːt / is the largest natural lake in Pennsylvania by surface area. [1] It is located in western Crawford County near a town with the same name.
Conneaut Lake Park was founded in 1892 as Exposition Park by Col. Frank Mantor as a permanent fairground and exposition for livestock, machinery, and industrial products from Western Pennsylvania. Prior to this time, 7 acres of land on which the park is located were purchased in 1877 by Aaron Lynce for use as a boat landing.
Conneaut ( / ˈkɒniɔːt / [3] KON-ee-awt) is a city in Ashtabula County, Ohio, United States, along Lake Erie at the mouth of Conneaut Creek 66 miles (106 km) northeast of Cleveland. The population was 12,318 at the 2020 census. Conneaut is located at the far northeastern corner of the state, within the Cleveland metropolitan area .
The park reopened in July for a shortened operating season with a lot of changes, including new ownership, which unveiled a new vision for Conneaut Lake Park's future.
New Castle, which the Beaver and Erie served, was the eastern terminus of Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal, which ran 91 miles (146 km) west to the Ohio and Erie Canal in Ohio. Another east–west canal, the French Creek Feeder, brought additional water into Conneaut Lake at the same time it provided a transportation corridor.
