Rand McNally was the first major map publisher to embrace a system of numbered highways. One of its cartographers, John Brink, invented a system that was first published in 1917 on a map of Peoria, Illinois. In addition to creating maps with numbered roads, Rand McNally also erected many of the actual roadside highway signs.

Yandex Maps (Russian: Яндекс Карты, romanized: Yandeks Karty) is a Russian [1] web mapping service developed by Yandex. The service provides detailed maps of the whole world [citation needed], directions and estimated times of arrival for driving, walking, cycling, kick scooter, and public transportation navigation.
In late 2006, Yahoo began a campaign to upgrade their maps, to compete better with Google Local and other online map companies. Several of the maps used in the survey were similar to Google maps.
