Nine Mile Prairie Township, bordered by Montgomery County to the east, was created May 15, 1821 from what had been approximately the northern 2/3 of the much larger historic Auxvasse Township that covered all of eastern Callaway County in its early history.
West Fulton Township covers an area of 25.47 square miles (66.0 km 2) and contains the west portion of the city of Fulton (the county seat). It contains two cemeteries: Callaway Memorial Gardens and Wright.
The settlement later took on the name Saint Aubert around the time a post office was built there in 1849. Official Callaway County maps of 1876 show St. Aubert, which was also the name of its township area. The town was still referred to as Saint Aubert when Livingston's "History of Northeast Missouri" went to press in 1883 or 1884.
